Durban South

This is a region of Durban bounded in the west by the N2 highway and in the east by the M4 highway. The area is partly residential and partly industrial, and lies just to the southwest of the Bay of Natal. In Umbilo the homes are small pre-war homes built close together on about a tenth of an acre, whereas in Montclair and Sea View the properties a only a little larger. Rossburgh is an entirely industrial area, and Clairwood, hemmed in by Rossburgh, is a mixture of old properties, some of which have been converted to light industry.

The infrastructure in this part of South Durban is a little skimpy. Whereas there are municipal clinics in most of the suburbs, the main hospitals are located in central Durban a short ride away. There are high and primary schools in most of the suburbs with the exception of Rossburgh. Mowat Park in Montclair has sports facilities for soccer, bowls, hockey and tennis. The close proximity of the two major highways makes it easy to access all parts of the city. There are several small shopping malls in the region including the Southway Mall in Sea View and Montclair Mall.

Although the properties in this region are small, its close proximity to the harbour and its surrounding industrial areas make it a much sought after region for workers in the area. Potential investors should probably look at property in this part of Durban with a view to renting it out.
