Johannesburg South

This part of Johannesburg South is bounded in the south by the N12 highway and in the north by the N17Toll Road. It is an older part of the city with small houses on small plots. In spite of that there are plenty of wide open spaces, with the Nedbank Moffat Park to the east of The Hill, Wemmer Pan, home to the South African Navy, the Turffontein Race Course and the Rand Stadium to the north. There is a wide selection of schools both private and government dotted around the area, plenty of shopping and a medical centre right in the heart of the region.

The region does not lack sports facilities, with several sports clubs, the Union Rugby Club, and a public swimming pool. Wemmer Pan provides fishing, boating and picnicking and hosts the hosts the annual Dragon Boat Corporate Spring Festival Regatta. To the south of the N12 is the Glenvista Country Club, which offers golf and several other sports. On the western shore of the lake lies Santarama Miniland, a collection of scale model buildings and a full-scale replica of Jan van Riebeeck's ship, the Dromedarus. Next to the lake is the James Hall Transport Museum, which is the largest transport museum in Africa.

This is a fairly high density that is bounded on three sides by the industrial areas that lie to the south of central Johannesburg, to the east is Steeledale, to the north City Deep, Village Deep and Selby and Booysens, between them offering numerous work opportunities.
