Roodepoort West

Roodepoort gets its name from one of the original four farms that were declared public diggings in the late 19th Century. The farm, whose name translated means red valley, took its name from the red soil of the area. The town became a municipality in 1904 and a city in 1977. Today the city is a suburb of Greater Johannesburg. Roodepoort has shown outstanding growth over the last few years, and it is an ideal area for property investment. Property available in the area includes town houses, cluster homes stand-alone houses, flats and luxury apartments.

Roodepoort is very close to the N1 Highway, which links up with all the other major highways in the area and gives easy access to the business areas of central Johannesburg and of Sandton. The city has excellent facilities. There are sports clubs, gyms, modern shopping malls, canoeing, rowing and sailing and two country clubs for golfing enthusiasts. Roodepoort has a good selection of schools and medical facilities are close by.

Roodepoort has its own civic theatre that is one of the few that can lay claim to its own orchestra. An open-air amphitheatre that seats more than 10,000 spectators is located close to the city centre. This is an area of Johannesburg that has rolling hills and picturesque suburbs lined with trees, and there are some fine views of the distant Magaliesburg mountains in the west
