Roodepoort West

Roodepoort came about in the last few years of the nineteenth century as a small ramshackle town housing a swarm of gold diggers. The town became a municipality in 1904, and incorporating the towns of Hamburg, Florida and Maraisburg, it became a city in 1977. Roodepoort is now a suburb of the City of Johannesburg, and it has shown exceptional growth over the last few years, making it the perfect area for property investment. You’ll find a wide selection of property available, from cluster homes to town houses, and from bed sitters to luxury apartments.

Major highways close to Roodepoort give easy access to the central business areas of both Johannesburg and Sandton, and Pretoria is a short half hour’s drive away. Facilities here are nothing short of excellent, with two country clubs, sports clubs, gyms, rowing, sailing and canoeing, modern shopping malls, and a good selection of schools and medical services. Just a few minutes’ drive is the site of the Witwatersrand National Botanical Gardens, a popular and extremely interesting attraction that is home to a pair of Black Eagles nesting above its 70 metre high waterfall.

Roodepoort residents have long been supporters of the performing arts and of the country’s cultural agenda. There is a civic theatre that boasts an in-house orchestra, an independent opera house and an open air amphitheatre that seats more than 10,000 spectators. The Roodepoort region is one of the most attractive residential areas in Johannesburg, with picturesque suburbs and rolling hills. Many properties have superb views of Johannesburg to the east and of the Magaliesburg mountains to the west.
